Salary Range: $115,000 – $135,000


Position Summary


The Executive Director of Finance and Administration (EDFA) serves as Foundry United Methodist Church’s (Foundry) chief administrative and financial executive, responsible for the strategic leadership and operational excellence of all non-programmatic functions of the church. This role provides executive-level leadership in finance, strategic planning, systems optimization, human resources strategy, facilities oversight, and compliance.


The EDFA partners closely with the Senior Pastor and the Executive Director of Program and Justice Ministries (EDPJ) to ensure that Foundry’s ministries are supported by strong financial stewardship, clear priorities, effective systems, and healthy staff practices. This leader is focused on organizational effectiveness, financial sustainability, and operational excellence in service of Foundry’s mission. The EDFA serves on the senior leadership team and works closely with the Finance Committee, Board, Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC), Personnel Committee, Stewardship Team, and Capital Campaign Committee.


Essential Functions


Financial Leadership and Stewardship


The EDFA serves as Foundry’s primary financial leader and strategic financial advisor. They provide strategic financial insight to the Senior Pastor and Board of Directors supporting informed decision-making that advances Foundry’s mission, strategic priorities, and long-term sustainability.


Responsibilities include:

● Lead development of the annual operating and capital budgets in collaboration with staff and lay

leadership

● Provide financial forecasting, scenario planning, and long-range financial modeling

● Monitor spending and revenue trends; conduct regular variance analysis

● Prepare clear, timely financial reports for the Senior Pastor, Finance Committee, Board, Stewardship Committee, and Capital Campaign Committee

● Oversee the annual audit and ensure integrity of accounting practices

● Supervise the Finance Professional, who manages day-to-day accounting operations

● Evaluate existing fund structures and reporting practices to reduce unnecessary complexity and improve financial visibility

● Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for non-financial leaders and board members

● Assess and optimize financial systems and reporting tools, ensuring new or existing systems are configured to support strategic decision-making

● Provide expert oversight of nonprofit fund accounting and accrual-based financial systems, ensuring clarity and accuracy across multiple restricted and designated funds

● Working with our Finance Committee, oversee that our investment firm has appropriate asset allocations for our reserves and other funds

● Partner with staff and lay leaders to steward organizational spending, recognizing that financial decisions occur across multiple ministries, committees, and leadership groups; use data, clear financial guidance, and strong relationships to support sound decision-making and fiscal discipline


Strategic Planning and Organizational Alignment


The EDFA designs, leads, and institutionalizes Foundry’s annual strategic and operational planning process to ensure the church’s vision is translated into structured goals, measurable outcomes, and accountable execution.


Responsibilities include:

● Design and facilitate annual goal-setting and planning processes in collaboration with EDPJ

● Align financial and staff resources with strategic priorities

● Establish clear metrics to track progress

● Create structured opportunities for staff reflection, adjustment, and learning

● Support cross-team collaboration and clarity of priorities

● Ensure planning processes are integrated with budgeting cycles and long-term financial sustainability


Systems and Operations Leadership


The EDFA oversees Foundry’s internal systems to ensure they are efficient, mission-aligned, and sustainable. They ensure that infrastructure supports ministry rather than impedes it.


Responsibilities include:

● Evaluate and improve operational workflows and standard operating procedures

● Oversee technology systems in partnership with the Director of Operations

● Identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary complexity and manual processes

● Strengthen project management practices across administrative functions

● Support operational improvements across communications, facilities, and ministry support systems


Human Resources Support and Staff Development


In partnership with the Senior Pastor and SPRC, the EDFA leads Foundry’s talent strategy to ensure the church attracts, develops, and retains exceptional people. The Finance Professional manages day-to-day payroll, benefits administration, and HR operations. The EDFA provides strategic oversight of humanresources, including organizational design, workforce planning, hiring decisions, and culture development.


Responsibilities include:

● Support hiring, onboarding, and staff transitions

● Maintain personnel systems, policies, and compliance

● Align performance management to strategic planning and annual goals

● Facilitate staff trainings and team and individual professional development opportunities

● Promote staff engagement and healthy workplace practices

● Ensure personnel records are maintained securely and appropriately


Facilities and Business Operations Oversight


The EDFA supervises the Director of Operations and supports leadership of Foundry’s building and

physical plant.


Responsibilities include:

● Manage and support the growth of the Director of Operations

● Ensure responsible financial planning for maintenance, repairs, and capital improvements

● Strengthen systems that support building rentals and revenue generation

● Monitor safety, risk management, and operational policies

● Partner with relevant committees to align facilities strategy with financial sustainability


Reporting, Governance, and Compliance

The EDFA ensures compliance with all reporting and regulatory requirements and serves as a key liaison to board leadership.


Responsibilities include:

● Oversee required local, state, federal, conference, and denominational reporting

● Maintain up-to-date policies and operational manuals

● Ensure records retention, documentation, and internal controls

● Support Board and committee reporting needs

● Serve as primary staff liaison to the Finance, Audit, and Compliance Committees, and the full Board as needed, providing high-level financial analysis and strategic recommendations

Education and Experience

● Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in business, finance, public administration, or related field a plus

● 7–10+ years of progressively responsible leadership in nonprofit, church, or mission-driven organization

● Expertise in nonprofit financial management, including fund accounting, accrual accounting, audit oversight, and financial systems implementation or optimization

● Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles (GAAP)

● Experience supervising staff and managing complex budgets, including capital budgets

● Experience strengthening systems and organizational processes

● Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clergy and lay leadership
